Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

     Play as either Luke Skywalker or Wedge Antilles as you battle against the Dark Side of the force.  Your goal is to complete series of missions.  Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader is a sequel to the N64’s Rogue Squadron.

     The biggest aspect that everyone’s been talking about is the graphics.  Rogue Leader’s graphics undeniably are one of the best-ever on any console to date.  If you’re looking for eye-candy, beautifully rendered environments and great effects, Rogue Leader boasts all this and more.

     In the gameplay, it is mostly consisted of aerial combats.  So it is a nice friendly welcome for all those Star Wars fans that have been waiting for another chance to fly that X-Wing and other space crafts.  The controls are fairly simple and easy to learn and get used to.  The control stick is to steer, the control pad is for commanding your buddies, A is to fire and the B button is for using bombs/torpedoes/depending on your vehicle.  Most of the missions are fairly straight-forward.  But the thing is that the gameplay almost certainly becomes challenging as you progress.  Then, obtaining the gold medals is another challenge that adds to the replay battle, but that does get frustrating.

    There are a lot of unlockable items, upgrades, etc. that will keep you busy for quite awhile. Also, there are passcodes you can enter for unlocking certain side quests, interviews and other goodies.

Plus, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader is compatible with Dolby Digital Surround, which has been nice ever since I’ve got surround sound!  Evil dudes flying around you… lasers firing all over… adds a lot to the gaming experience… ;)

Overall, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II is a great game for those Gamecube owners out there.  It has great graphics, great gameplay and a lot of replay value.
