Command & Conqueror: Red Alert 2 – Review by Leo

Command & Conquer was one of my favourite games back then, and even now I don’t mind playing it. In fact, I was hooked on this game for a little while. Set in the future, the Soviets and the Allies go at it once again, this time using a variety of strategic units and fields of weaponry. Red Alert 2 involves strategy of everything in the map: such as the geographical conditions, knowledge of your units and which ones suit the scenario best, and of course, the way you position your defensive posts and the path you send your force into full-scale assault. Red Alert 2 will definitely last a long time in your CD Rom drive.

                Fun Factor –

Red Alert 2 is very fun. It involves every gaming (and real-time) aspect of the mind and sets your wits into a virtual battleground. Everything about this game is well-suited for a fun gameplay. Though, as you go along further into the missions for both the Allies and the Soviets, you’ll notice that victory is a lot more difficult and the missions can really be time-consuming and frustrating altogether.

                Graphics –

Since most strategy games use 2D sprites, but appear as 3D images, Red Alert 2 surpasses all other strategy games using the 2D to 3D method. The animations for every unit are awesome and the gunfire and shots of your flak cannons can really put up a show! The terrain and environmental objects are also outstandingly impressive.

                Sound –

The sound is amazingly fair. Nice voices and cool effects regarding ambiences of the battleground and cannon grapeshots, flak cannons, and echoing gunfire bring the war alive. The music matches the sounds, as the audio matches the gameplay.

                Controls –

Once again, like every other strategy game, all you really need is your mouse, your keyboard, and your eyes, and of course, your mind. So the controls definitely allow you to take control of your units fast and easy in the midst of battle. Building interfaces and the menu are also easy to use, not an endless maze which you have to keep clicking “yes” to get to your desired field.

                Overall Rating –

                5 stars…an awesome simulator! =)
