The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of
the Ring
Before watching the movie, I read The Hobbit and up to Lothórien in the Fellowship of the Ring. I had already known what The Lord of the Rings was about from reading the books. Thus, the opinions you see here are from someone who has read J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece. Frodo (played by Elijah Wood), is entrusted with the task of destroying the Ring of Power. He is sent on a perilous journey towards Mordor, the only place evil can be destroyed. If he were to fail, Middle-Earth would be doomed to the Dark Lord Sauron. Along with the help of his hobbit companions, Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin), Meriadoc Brandybuck (Dominic Monaghan), Peregrin Took (Billy Boyd), Gandalf (Ian Mckellan) the wizard, the men, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean), Legolas (Orlando Bloom) the elf, and Gimli (John-Rhys Davies) the dwarf, they face many obstacles and the dark forces of evil. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is the first installment of three movies, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Releasing December 18, 2002 and December 17, 2003. The Fellowship of the Ring takes you from the comforts of the Shire to the dangers of Middle-Earth. This movie takes you to a fantasy realm, only places you would see in literature and in dreams, into the world of hobbits, elves, wizards and dwarves. The story is rich and beautiful, written over 50 years ago, the movie, along with the book shines over the rest. The acting was magnificently done, the cast were well chosen and fitted their roles perfectly, matching their personalities well with the book. The score by Howard Shore went along with the flow and the atmosphere with the movie flawlessly. The beautiful cinematography which had earned them an Academy Award. The details, from the majestic beauty of Rivendell and Lothlórien, to the very mugs of The Prancing Pony Inn, did were not overlooked. Filmed in New Zealand, Middle-Earth came alive from the pages of Tolkien’s books. What more can you ask in a movie? Though practically impossible to take the 500-page book and compile it into a 3 hour movie with the exact storyline, Peter Jackson has done an outstanding job of pleasing both old and new fans alike would enjoy. A movie experience you definitely would not want to miss out on. - Bobo
