Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
Spirit is a story about a horse whose spirit could not be broken. Set in the untamed Wild West, he goes through trials of maintaining his freedom from the world of man. Along the way, he makes friends with a native, Little Creek (voice of Daniel Studi) and falls in love with a pretty little mare, Rain. From the trailers and the stills, you could have easily told how beautiful this movie would be visually, but sadly, I can’t say the same for the story. I felt t here was no solid storyline, no real fixed point in this movie. Sure it’s a movie about a horse who’s spirit could not be broken, and the conflicting worlds of man and animal, but that’s all? What I really disliked about Spirit was the music by Bryan Adams, it was totally out of place and the lyrics were too cheesy. But aside from that the narration by Matt Damon was well done, talking horses would be too much, but then I guess you can excuse the rotten lyrics as a sort of, supplement, to the narration, portraying the horse’s feelings, I suppose. But enough of the negatives, the graphics were stunning, gorgeous, fresh, clean and amazing! The scenery was great! The water effects were so… liquidy!!! I really enjoyed the visuals, and I do hope more movies will follow the same suit of creating animated movies with a similar style. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is a good movie for children, but may not appeal as much to the older audiences. With a few flaws here and there, it still is a nice movie to check out. - Bobo
